  • Today at 5:37 PM I would never had shopped around for car insurance, I figured my rate would stay the same, or even drop couple bucks when I got a smaller car. I never really worried about it too much because I just always had the same company and I felt it was too much of a bother to shop around as I never had any problems with them as long as I paid the bills on time. but when I went to change to a different car, my rates went up! a LOT! like 50%! for the same model year going from a big car to a small car. So I did some research, and we talked and talked. here is why I changed companies after being a loyal customer for 25 years, never had a late payment. only 1 claim and hardly any tickets. 1.) they said my rates would go from $80.00 to 120.00 on the new car. same model year and a smaller car. they said at first it is because the smaller car is a 4 door and has more glass. I asked why does that matter? I am only getting liability anyways? makes no sense to me so I asked them to see if they can do better for a 25 year customer.... 2.) then they said the Nissan is a "High end car" it is more expensive to repair, and more likely to be stolen as nissans are more frequently stolen. I asked what difference does that make? if the car gets wrecked, needs repairs or is stolen and I only have liability you wont have to pay out anything? and its not a high end car its an entry level sardine can anyways! no one would steal that little car it's not worth anything! they said well if someone steals it and crashes it into someone they might end up paying for it so its a risk for them.... 3.) they said gieco doesn't have an office so you wont have an agent, and we process our claims faster. I informed them that gieco does have an office,i was just there and bought a new policy, and I have never needed to file any claims anyways. they were not aware that gieco has offices now with people there. all in all my new rates are $29.35 a month for the car plus $19.00 a month for the home insurance with the same coverage and a $500.00 deductible vs farmers $1000.00 deductible. so my rate is $48bucks a month vs the $120.00 a month they were going to charge me!! pays to do your homework!
