| - The demands of a new job position leaves me with little time to worry about my hair. Braids are the go to, no fuss hairstyle, but I hadn't had braids in over 10 years, and that was pre-Arizona, so I didn't know where to begin. I found Destiny via Yelp and decided to give her a try. I called and made an appointment for microbraids, but there wasn't much instruction given on what I needed to do to prepare.
I arrived with my hair washed and blowdried, but my hair is all natural, so it's curly. Destiny stated that my hair was "too wild" and she proceeded to aggressively yank at my tresses, top to bottom, with her small-tooth comb. Any professional stylist knows that this is a no-no. Not only are you supposed to comb from the bottom up, you need to use a wide-tooth comb with my hair type, AND all of that stress, combined with the pulling during the braiding process will surely damage anyone's hair.
I ended up being pleased with the look of my microbraids, even though they were much shorter than I wanted (that part was my fault; I didn't get long enough inches). However, 2-3 days later, when I awoke from my slumber, one braid had fallen out! My real hair is not short, it's shoulder length, so there is no reason why braids should have been falling out, unless the installation was poor. During the period of time that I was out of town, 2 more braids had fallen out. I texted Destiny to inform her and she told me that I could come by when I returned to AZ and she'd re-braid them.
When I returned, she basically blamed me. She stated that her braids don't fall out... Uh, obviously, they do. She then told me that I should not wash my hair and that this was the reason the braids came out. I know it's been a while since I've worn braids, but I do remember washing my hair every 5-7 days and NEVER losing a braid. So no honey, your workmanship was the issue.
I won't give one star because the braids that didn't fall out, looked really cute. I won't give 3 stars, b/c a $430 hairstyle ($200 was for the hair) should've lasted me 3 months, not 1, and braids should NOT have fallen out 2 nights after being braided; that is NOT ok. I won't return.
