| - We chose The Resolution to stay for our first wedding anniversary weekend, staying for two nights. The hotel is in a great location, very central, though there is no on-site parking and the local car-park costs £5.00 for 24 hours or £9.00 for 48 hours.
We chose the four-poster bedroom with a view, and it was really lovely, with beautiful views of the abbey and the quayside. The facilities were good; plenty of tea, coffee & biscuits, flat-screen tv and a music system, plus a few toiletries. We also had an electric fan, which helped make two very warm evenings much more comfortable. Although some previous reviewers have said that they would have like air-con, we really enjoyed sitting with the fan on and the window pushed up a bit, to get that authentic holiday feeling! Please be aware, free wi-fi is not available in bedrooms, only in public areas on the ground floor.
The staff at the hotel were all so nice and really friendly and helpful. We were asked if everything was okay lots of times, the staff were very attentive and really chatty & welcoming. The cleaning staff were very effecient, providing plenty of replenishments both mornings. The only slight disappointment was that they were knocking on the bedroom door at 10.30 on the Sunday morning to clean our room. We didn't realise the check-out time was so early! Most hotels have an 11.00 check-out, and usually 12.00 on Sundays (day of rest!) so we both felt this was far too early. We would rather have had a later check-in time so we could enjoy a relaxing Sunday morning in our lovely room
We didn't have an evening meal at the hotel, but we have heard rave reviews from friends about the tasty, good-sized meals. The breakfast buffet is plentiful, and again the staff are really efficient and helpful. I was concerned, as a vegetarian, that the eggs and fried bread were in the same tray as the black pudding, and that people were using the same tongs to plate up bacon & sausages as they were for the mushrooms and hash browns. When I enquired about this, I was given a freshly-made plate of breakfast, all cooked separatley, which I really appreciated. And it was very tasty, especially the hash browns! I would like to see separate trays and utensils next time Not just for veggies, but because some people do unfortunately have some pretty serious food allergies.
The evening entertainment was great, both the live music in the main bar and the mowtown disco in The Vault. The atmosphere was really lively, and everyone seemed to be having a great time. The music was upbeat and fun, and it didn't disturb us upstairs in the room as it was just at a pleasant background level. It really added to the holiday feeling and made the weekend more enjoyable
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed staying at The Resolution, and we will definitely be returning next year for our second anniversary! Hopefully we will be able to stay in the same room again!
Hghly recommended to anyone wanting a fun break away with happy, friendly staff and a great central location.
