  • Jim Noble is one of the area's best restaurateurs, and King's Kitchen is a solid entry into his stable of eateries. Today was my second trip here, and as I usually bring my lunch I occasionally forget lunch in uptown Charlotte can set you back about twenty bucks. You'd think I got ripped off for spending that much on a BLT. You'd be wrong. Firstly, King's Kitchen is non-profit and helps those trying to get back on their feet by giving them a good, steady job. That alone is worth a higher price tag. From a strictly selfish perspective, however, let's talk about the sandwich, a 3.5" high pile of heirloom tomato slices, baby field greens, thick slices of perfectly crisp bacon and Duke's mayo (because we are civilized southerners) between two slices of delicious toasted artisan bread. I love tomato sandwiches but am persnickety as heck about my tomatoes. These heirlooms were perfect. I already want another one of these babies for dinner. If the sandwich weren't enough, I also tried the mac and cheese, my favorite comfort food. Shazam. Best I have had in the city. And the collards and butter beans my companions had looked delicious too. Give King's Kitchen a try when you're hungry uptown. Not only will you be giving people a helping hand, you will also enjoy a darned good meal. This place is a Noble effort indeed.
