  • All of the circumstances regarding my visit to Sugar Donuts would make me expect to leave unhappy, but instead, I was still really impressed and will definitely be back soon! My fiance and I visited around 2:30 on Sunday because we were in the area and had been dying to try Sugar Donuts. With only 30 minutes until closing, they only had 6 maple bacon donuts, a breakfast sandwich, and a jelly filled donut left. We decided to just split a maple bacon donut since we were huge, but the owner was so nice and gave us both one saying that nobody should have to split since they were about to close. I'm generally not a fan of sweet and salty mixed and have even had other maple bacon donuts previously that I wasn't a fan of, but this one was great! The bacon was already sweet with brown sugar, and the maple syrup wasn't too overpoweringly sweet on top of that, so everything worked together well. I'm also not a fan of yeast donuts, but these weren't too soft and airy like some yeast iterations, and were quite tasty. The owner told me about a number of their cake options that they now have (due to customer requests), and I'll definitely be back to try one of those. Overall, donuts were 5 stars and the service was 5 stars - this is my new top donut place in Charlotte and one of the few donut shops in the Queen City I would actually pay money to go back to.
