| - I had somewhat lower expectations for NY-NY, mostly because I had heard that the rooms were on the smaller side, and the hotel was slightly dated. I guess it's good to keep your expectations low, because I was pleasantly surprised by the contemporary look of the room itself, albeit small, but not so small that I was tripping over my own feet.
I had made the reservation several months ago, and had requested a room on a higher level floor, which they noted at the time, but again, I was surprised that they actually honored the request. I went with my boyfriend- our room was on the 28th floor. Yay for heights! My only complaint about the room was that the walls were thin. Really thin. Either that, or the people having sex next door were being really loud. I had to turn the T.V. on halfway to full blast, and I could still hear them. Geez. I realize it's Vegas, but still.
While the room itself met (possibly even exceeded) my expectations, the stay at NY-NY was not without occasional inconvenience. When we first arrived, before we even checked in, we went over to the Zumanity box office to purchase the $25 Passport Coupon Booklet, which is featured on the hotel's website, but as we would soon found out, was nothing but a big annoyance and produced what appeared to be lousy, pointless coupons. Passport highly NOT recommended. Unless you want to do some running back and forth throughout the hotel, in which case, you'd be better off walking the strip.
After we had purchased the Passport, we checked in, not after discovering that coupons in the booklet were expired by more than a year. Bah! We checked with the concierge to make sure that we could still use the coupons, and they gave the okay. Yet, when we tried to use one of the "Buy One, Get One Free" drink coupons at the Bar at Times Square, the bartender wouldn't honor the coupon. This led us back to the concierge, who asked us to come back in the morning to see if accounting would comp the 2 drinks we had just purchased.
We did a lot of back and forth from the concierge and the Zumanity box office that next day. It was slightly annoying that we had to explain the story to every staff person at both places, even more annoying that the staff didn't seem to want to offer to either comp our drinks or refund us the money we had paid for the Passport, not until we asked for this specifically anyway. Staff were friendly, patient, and apologetic toward us though, and we eventually did get a refund for the Passport, in addition to two free drink coupons, which somehow made the whole rendezvous worthwhile, and earned NY-NY a 4 star rating. Good thing, too, because after all of that, we really did need a drink!
Overall, the experience at NY-NY was decent. I would stay here again, but will definitely forgo any coupon booklet that I actually have to fork over money for. Especially one that's expired.
