| - ---This a review for the Dormont location---
I loved used book stores! I love the smell and looking through old books. But not this one.
This inside looks beautiful and I took pictures because I loved the used, cozy feeling. I also loved that instead of music playing, there was a Librivox audio book playing.
The thing that ruined my first trip to this bookstore was the person working the cash register (who I think may be the owner). I heard her be less than friendly, on the verge of rude, to three different people, one of them being me.
#1 The first was a lady who had called in advance to see if they would accept Chinese history and philosophy books. When the cashier saw the books she said, "Oh, just to let you know we can't take books unless they are in VERY good shape. I can see these in the box are in very poor condition. I can't even look at these. I'm very sorry, very sorry." ( She didn't sound sorry & I feel she should have mentioned this when the woman called in the first place)
#2 Another guy comes in about 5 minutes later with books to sell/trade and she also rudely turns him away saying, "We are not at all interested in those kinds of books." Those kind of books being large picture books/reader's digest books/etc. Again, "So sorry, sorry." *insert eye roll at the lack of sincerity oozing from this woman*
#3 I finally say to my husband, "Lets get out of here because I don't want to have to listen to her anymore." I take my two books, both from the $1 section, to the counter. I set them down. She says, "Just so you know, all mass produced paperbacks are $2.50 regardless of what they are marked on the inside." I am so put off I say okay and start to walk out the door. These books are in really rough shape and not worth $2.50 each. As I am trying to leave she asks, "Were those books back on the $1 shelves." Yes I say, and she ushers me back to the register and apologizes. My husband says to me, "Do you have any cash on you?" BEFORE I HAVE THE CHANCE TO ANSWER HIM... the cashier says, "I am not taking a credit card for $2 worth of books. It costs me a dollar to the run the machine." We pay $2.14 and run away from the place. I will never return there, and I will recommend others choose another local, second-hand book store.
