| - I can totally see why so many people gave this place 4 stars. It is exactly that... pretty good, not amazing. We went on a very cold night (0 F, about -21 C), and the cold air definitely made it's way inside. I don't know if they didn't have the heat on, or the heat just was no match for the outside cold. But, that's hard to help in Toronto in January.
Here is the breakdown:
Food - Pretty good for bar food. We had the beef rolls, which my friend really liked, but I thought was a little dry. They say it's house made, but it tastes like it's premodern frozen stuff. I had the nachos, which were really good! My favorite was their chive sour cream... i could have drank that! My friend had the burger, which looked ok, nothing amazing. Strange thing was they were supposed to have potato leek soup, but when my friend asked about it they said that they had vegetable. The server didn't know that I actually overheard them earlier talking about how the guys in the kitchen would just "throw together" some time of mixed veggie soup because "that's what he always doesn't." Strange.
Drinks - This is probably the best part of this place. A lot of their drinks are made per order. So they don't just have an old fashioned on the menu, they say, hey, pick a bourbon or whiskey and we will make it an old fashioned for $1 more. Needless to say i had the old fashioned and I loved it! I also love that they have Asian beers (Sapporo on draft and Asahi in a can).
Service - Here is where the not so great starts... Some of the people seem less than happy about being there. I actually think it may have been the owners/managers that were the least friendly. They just were not interested in their customers. The other people (new guy who was a bartender, the female bartender and the guy dealing with the pool tables) were actually great. You would imagine the owners/managers would be the most passionate, but who knows, maybe they were burned out.
Entertainment - Very cool that on top of the pool tables and ping pong (which i didn't actually see) they have a whole area with board games. You won't be bored here.
