NOT MY CASINO
When a casino is so depressing and unfriendly to the point that I couldn't stand being there more than five minutes; it is not my casino. This review touches on why My Casino is not my casino.
This Sunday had been a day of adventure out in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. After a post Lake Mead dinner in Johnny Macs I wanted to hang out in the nearby My Casino. I had never caught My Casino's act before. Going back to Spring 2013, when I attended the Frost Bites UYE, I set eyes on My Casino which was Mystic Lounge Casino at the time. I had been curious about this small property. I anticipated a small locals casino offering the Hendertucky charm and hospitality with old school value. On this unofficial Bookmark Sunday, I'd give it a try.
My Casino is at the southeast corner of Boulder Highway (the main drag in Hendertucky) and Palo Verde Drive adjacent to Hawthorn Suites. The first thing I noticed was a well maintained parking lot with a few vehicles.
The casino lacks a welcoming entrance. It is actually negative. I set eyes on the negative signs prohibiting backpacks and some policies regarding April prizes. When I walk into a casino I want to be walking into a worry free zone. This is the first time I recall a casino with a sign prohibiting knapsacks. Why? The Boulder Highway and Saguaro Trails are nearby. I would think that armed security would be a deterrent for somebody that would be bringing something illegal inside a knapsack. My Casino does have armed security?! Just a little deeper into the small casino, I read a sign at their Cafe which is a self-serve deli that their hours are reduced.
I read more negativity in the few employees than in the signs. None of the employees seemed happy. This seemed to be a smile free instead of a worry free zone. The cashier looked unhappy. I got the impression that I'd be bothering her if I did stick around to play here and cashed in. The bartender seemed unhappy. If unhappiness is the theme, this casino is doing a fantastic job.
As I walked around it was becoming clear that this is not my casino. I couldn't find a change/ ticket redemption machine. A few of the machines were out of service. The bar situation was an utter failure. I asked the poor bartender who has to spend hours here what draft beer they have. She told me they had Guinness. I wanted a drink on the line of Budweiser or Miller. So, I asked her what bottles of beer they have. She replied that they had an Orchid Apple. "This is ridiculous," I thought. This is similar to going to Starbuck's and they have only a chai beverage and no coffee. It was obvious she could make out my disappointment. She said she could get me a Coke or water. When I am busting my tail at work, I am not looking forward to my Saturday night to drink a Coke or water at a bar where the biggest worry is somebody coming in with a knapsack instead of offering customers real beer and a smile. I had had enough of this casino and busted my tail out of here to my casino in downtown Henderson.
