Saying goodbye to a pet isn't easy; Journeys Home Pet makes it about as easy as it can be. From the moment I talked with Dr. Laura on the phone, even though I knew this was her job, she gave me personal attention and was very compassionate. I'm grateful for their extended hours, and a 5:30 afternoon appointment allowed all the members of our household to be present.
When Dr. Laura arrived she may have been a bit surprised to find five adults sitting around our cat, but took in the scene and put us all at ease. She was kind with both the people in the room and the animal, explaining everything thoroughly but not so much that it got technical or overwhelming.
I had not considered home euthanasia before, but it was SO comfortable for both the animal and the people involved. We got to sit in the cat's favorite window seat in the evening sun, with familiar smells and people and surroundings. Like I opened with, this was about as easy as it was going to get.
Dr. Laura was patient with our tears and final goodbyes, and was clearly in no rush. I really appreciated that. At the end, Dr. Laura asked if we wanted to share a hug with her - I personally will never turn one down - and I really appreciated that too.
I have nothing but good things to say about both home euthanasia and Dr. Laura. Thank you for making a difficult time warm and pleasant.
