Las Vegas is dependent upon locals and tourists, US and abroad. When the economic conditions improve first, then Las Vegas benefits and thrives - not simultaneously. There is a lot of new building happening in the Henderson/Lake Las Vegas area. Housing is still affordable and new. Reflection Bay golf club has reopened and is one of the most gorgeous courses in Las Vegas. Essence and Herbs, the new steak restaurant has just opened, April 2015, and is now prepared for business in the Spring/Summer months. People who go there and expect Disneyland for adults will not be happy. It's more of an escape from the downtown craziness and much more relaxing. There are restaurants, night life and shops in existence or beginning to open. I see new opportunity there. Set the right expectations for any trip and location. If you want the Strip experience with all the crowds of people and lines, you should stay on or near Las Vegas Blvd. That's what that part of Vegas serves. In contrast, Lake Las Vegas is beautiful and has the type of fun you'd expect from a resort section of the city. 2015 outdoor concerts are starting up and the Hilton and Westin Hotels offer great rates! It's the relaxing side of Las Vegas. I'm watching the life come back to this lovely area and am excited about their future. (a former California resident)
