  • Is there an option to give the drinks, dessert, and snacks a 5, and everything else a 3? If your primary goal is to grab a few drinks and small bites before/after a show then this is probably your place. The drinks were unique and delicious definitely worth stopping in for, but the main entrees were less than stellar. A nice, fancy meal it was not. I really wanted to like this place a lot more than I actually did. Is this place more hype than substance? I'm left wishing we had gone to Butcher and the Rye instead. We made reservations a few months ago via Yelp and had really high hopes! The sitting areas were super tight, and the plush high back chairs were difficult to move and get in and out of. We did appreciate how well the staff worked together to clear tables, and how the servers checked with patrons to see if they had a timeline to work around (trying to make it to a show etc.) I went with the Roast Chicken (chicken, garlic sausage, marble potatoes, heirloom squash and broccoli rabe) and my husband went with the highly reviewed pot roast. For the chicken, there was a mix of flavors that did not taste pleasing. I kept eating, and mixing thinking it's probably meant to all be eaten together rather than one or two items separately. I was getting a flavor profile similar to sauerbrauten (german potroast). I will say, the heirloom squash in this dish was the singular bright spot. How it was dressed or seasoned (apple cider maybe?) oh so, good. I'd eat a plate of just that - five stars right there! The pot roast was alright as well. We both commented the entree needed more pepper. No salt and pepper shakers available at the tables though. Some gristle was lurking in between the bits of meat, so you never knew what you were going to get. Was it outstanding, no, was it good - a solid good in my opinion. Okay so dessert milk chocolate pot de creme (other options were a cheesecake dish, and berry lemon cake/sorbet combo.) This pot de creme was oh so good, with the perfect amount of chocolate with a luscious texture. It's so hard to get desserts right, but thankfully this one was done right. Finally, we both went home with leftovers from our entrees. Usually leftovers taste the same or better the next day. This was not the case, sigh. The pot roast was again alright, but the gristle that was hiding among the untouched mashed potatoes was not appetizing. I gave the chicken another shot, and while the chicken just by itself tasted better I realized the offending flavor in the dish was the sausage. I can't quite pin what was unappetizing about the sausage, but it did not go well with the vinegaryness of the rest of the dish. I love sausage, but this did not play well with others. We had a hard time believing this restaurant is under the same umbrella as BATR. If we had gone to this establishment first, I think it would be a hard sell to try others in the brand. Last tip, parking. There's a few garages nearby that seem reasonable during non-events, but we happened to have dined when The Price is Right was filming in town, so.....that was $15 for parking. We've parked downtown before on a Saturday night and it was a few bucks, so this was a bit of a shock.
