  • If I could rate this bakery zero stars, I would. I called there on a Tuesday morning around 10:30 to order a large sheet cake for a party to celebrate a friend getting a really great new job. The young woman who answered the phone, told me to call back in ten minutes because they were "really busy." This should have been an immediate red flag about the quality of their customer service, but I called back anyway. I gave her my contact information and all of the details about the size of the cake, flavor of the batter and icing. I then started asking about the decorations i wanted. After each question, the woman would put down the phone, yell out my questions to someone in the background, then get back on the phone to answer my question. After the third time this happened, I asked if I could just speak to the decorator myself, to eliminate this back-and-forth routine. I was told that the decorator was "on break" and to call back in 20 minutes. So, 20 minutes later, I called back and a different person answered the phone, a very unfriendly woman. When I asked if I could speak to the decorator, she said, "NO, you can't speak to the decorator, I'm the manager and I can answer any questions you have." I proceeded to explain to her how I wanted the cake to be decorated, and found that each "specialty decoration" would be an additional $ 20. These were not air-brushed photo's, just an image of something made out of icing. After agreeing to spend an additional $ 40 for two specialty decorations, (which they demanded a credit card deposit for), she said they could decorate the border of the cake with flowers at no additional cost, since that was a standard decorations. I asked could they do some balloons along with the flowers, since that was also a standard decoration and was told no, that would be an additional $ 20. So now the a sheet cake for 60 people was going to cost $ 130! At which point, I said I would have to think about it and call back. The manager then said, "Ma'am, you just can't keep calling us back." To which I replied, "No problem, I won't be calling you back because I'm calling another bakery instead." And then she hung up on me. I called The Party Cake Store in Brookline, where they could not have been nicer and more accommodating, and were able to do the cake I wanted with no additional costs and no advance deposit. I have no idea how a place like Paddy Cake Bakery has been able to stay in business for as long as they have with that poor level of customer service, but I would not recommend them at all.
