I visited in April 2014.
Dr. Niman was very kind and considerate, apologizing for the fact he was running late in-person. The hygienist was one of the nicest I'd ever met. The new patient exam was thorough and included a short medical history. I love that the hygienist didn't use a water-pick (I totally hate those things) and that a small sink was provided for rinse-and-spit instead of having your mouth flushed out for you with the suction straw. I mentioned one problem with an itchy filling, and the dentist and hygienist both had a thorough look at the problem, then gave me recommendations for dealing with it that were totally reasonable. They seemed to have my best interest in mind, instead of proposing expensive solutions, and I appreciated that so much.
The only reason this is not a 5-star review is because some of the information I was given directly contradicts information from my previous dentist, who was a specialist on the ways in which the bite affects oral health. My former dentist told me that orthodontic work focused on a straight smile can lead to tooth grinding and gum recession because it changes the bite. He didn't believe that gum recession was caused by aggressive brushing techniques. Dr. Niman was happy to see I'd had ortho work, and I didn't get into whether that causes grinding/gum recession with him. The hygienist cautioned me to not "scrub" my teeth with a toothbrush to worsen my gum recession. Whether orthodontic work leads to grinding and gum recession is a matter of opinion, however, and I doubt it will impact the quality or method of care for the average patient like me. I would recommend this practice based on the quality of care I received there during my first visit.
