| - Not bad, not great.
It's not very central - but being a Hyatt House - it's a got a motel-ish vibe with entrance facing a parking lot - not my 1st choice in hotels, but was a good crash point for our short jaunt in Pittsburgh and I was using my Hyatt connect.
PROS:
- free shuttle service - can't quite recall the range but they will drop you off/pick you up with ~3 kms (or miles?) of the hotel - basically, most areas north of downtown but not downtown Pittsburgh itself. We only used this service once to get dropped up at Pitt U and they leave the hotel on the hour. We could have used it more, but Uber was way faster and parking was pretty easy in Lawrenceville so we drove ourselves - but nice service
- staff was friendly and very helpful
- good sized fridge in our room
- the included breakfast was not bad
- the location wasn't central, but it's a short walk to a Giant Eagle and a few bars/restaurants in the neighbourhood
CONS:
- $15/day parking is steep for a 'suburb' of Pittsburgh
- only 2 elevators and they were slow
- sound insulation was pretty bad - I could hear other hotel guests through the walls and ceilings. Didn't bug me (I'm used to apartments/condos and I'm a heavy sleeper) but this seems to be a consideration for others, so just pointing it out
- I usually avoid 'breakfast included' joints because the breakfast is usually bad, but since it was included and the location isn't central - we fuelled up before leaving the hotel. While it was quite pleasant during the weekdays, the weekend breakfast was a mess. Long waits for the omelette station, eldery people and children jamming things up, etc. I guess that's to be expected from a Hyatt House, I would avoid the breakfast bar on the weekends.
