  • I've been hearing about the Tin Angel Pittsburgh for decades. When my wife and I moved back from DC, I decided to make a reservation. First off, it wasn't terrible. I've had worse, but at this price point, in this city, don't bother. Atmosphere is dreary, decor beyond oudated. Feels like eating in a 1950s yacht. Prepare yourself for elevator muzak from '92. Besides half the restaurant being empty, we waited 25 minutes at the also empty bar unattended for our 8 PM table. We did get strong cocktails eventually. Bar is not well stocked. Scotch list is run of the mill and liquor is 'well' quality. Forget beer. Bartender didn't know what Prosecco was... "no, we don't have that." After sitting, we were tossed dirty, food-stained menus and the menu was explained to us by a well-meaning but bored waitress. They were thrown off because I wanted the wine menu first. If you like Robert Mondavi, jackpot! That's as good as it gets. I ordered the only Bordeaux (3 items on the menu involve Filet, I expected much more.) The bartender came back to ask again and I read it AND pointed it out. She brought back Beaujolais to which I said "ok." It would go with beef anyway. Wine list was disappointing, but this is a great place to order Dom Perignon... priced at cost. The soup and fruit starters were above average. Fruit was very fresh. The following boat of antipasto unfortunately soaked everything in pepper and olive juice, gross. Our meals, Medallions of Beef and the Filet Mignon with mushrooms were again above average. Meat was a good cut in both cases, not dry, and done exactly how we ordered. Everything else was fine. Dessert was very premade, like 3 days premade. Still, it wasn't overly rich and overall was acceptable if not forgettable. Coffee was cold. We won't be returning and I was very disappointed.
