| - I live in the area & have been to this Whole Foods location on several occasions. I'm 99.9999% sure that most of these reviewers on here are either A. the typical Whole Foods customers or B. paid by the company to post 5-star reviews, but i'm going to jump right in & say that one thing is consistent during each of my visits to this Whole Foods location: The employees in this store are VERY selective in regards to which customers get the "white glove" treatment... If you're some super-rich caucasian from Scottsdale/Paradise Valley, you get the red carpet rolled out for you.. If you're a person of color, they don't greet you, they don't smile, they don't make eye contact, they don't walk over to you to ask if you need help with anything, the people at the sample kiosks don't offer you anything: You get none of that if you have ANY color to your skin (unless maybe you walk in there with an expensive fur coat on or something [which I wouldn't do even if I owned one as most of my visits have been enroute from my gym to my home & who the Hell brings a fur coat with them to the gym in Phoenix, Arizona]). It's like as soon as you don't fit a particular demographic (&/or physical description of their "preferred" type of Whole Foods customer), they automatically make it a point to do as little as possible to help you (in hopes that you'll leave the store out of frustration &/or lack of assistance from staff)... I went into this store the other day looking for something specific & after someone FINALLY decided to come over & assist me (instead of allowing me to helplessly wander up & down each of the 500,468,222 aisles), he escorted me over to someone in another department: The employee in the other department looked at me like I was trash & before saying one word she literally waited for me to engage her (instead of smiling & asking "How can I help you today?"). Man I tell you, there's nothing like going to a place of business & having the employees treat you as if you're inconveniencing them by asking them for assistance (especially considering that YOU'RE the one paying their salary).
Some will say "Oh I think it's just your imagination" blah blah blah... To that, I would say "Oh, I think you're just stupid"... I do have a wonderful imagination, but things can't be any more obvious when I see someone walk into the store a few feet ahead of me & get a hello, a smile, eye contact & everything else that is taught during the first week of any basic customer service training class, yet when I walk into the same store (LITERALLY a few seconds later) I get the complete opposite. It's almost like management trains their employees to be racist at this store, it's so obvious that it's sickening & when you (AND your friends/family members) experience this on EVERY SINGLE VISIT, it cannot go unnoticed. It's so bad that it literally should be on TV. I would LOVE to see one of these investigative TV programs (or news stations) go in there with hidden cameras, put one on a white guy, put another on a black guy & see for themselves exactly how the employees treat both of them: They treat you differently, & it is for this reason that I ONLY shop at Whole Foods either A. as a VERY last resort (i.e. specialty hard-to-find items that I prefer to purchase locally) or B. when i'm super hungry after my workout & happen to have a few extra dollars to burn (because the food sure is good but you basically have to take out a mortgage just to purchase even a meager amount of it)...
So yes, I go to this Whole Foods & buy something every now & then, but even if I was rich enough to shop there for EVERYTHING (like some well-off folks seem to do), you can rest assured that I would still save my money & do the majority of my shopping elsewhere just based on the rudeness of the employees alone. At the end of the day, my money is just as green as anyone else's & if you're going to treat me differently than you treat everyone else just because you have an opinion about me (or others who look like me) solely based off my skin color &/or what i'm wearing, then you don't deserve one cent from me: Stop sticking your nose up in the air & acting as if the people who don't look like your typical snobby/well-off Whole Foods customers aren't part of the reson why YOU even have a job to begin with (because in reality, they are).
