  • The consensus among our group about Scarpetta was pretty meh. While some of the food was well done, we expected more given the price, and several of the dishes fell flat in terms of flavor. We were able to get a last-minute reservation late on a Saturday night, but from my experience, Vegas is built to handle so many people that reservations anywhere but the most exclusive restaurants aren't necessary. The restaurant looks out the side of the Cosmopolitan, and you get a decent but not amazing view of the side of the Bellagio fountains (the giant Bellagio sign gets in the way somewhat). The vibe is trendy upscale, and the prices reflected that. We couldn't find any wines under $100/bottle (but if a $4400 bottle is what you want, Scarpetta can accommodate you (and yes, that's not a typo)). Consulting the sommelier revealed only 2 such options, one of which was only a red blend. The few wines I recognized were priced about 3x retail, which isn't outrageous, but it's not great either. The cocktails were strong and priced typically for Vegas at ~$16 apiece. Mine was tasty but not anything special. My wife's made her sick later that evening, despite being the only thing she drank that night (she is sensitive to cheap alcohol or alcohol with lots of sugar). The service was average. We were promptly seated, but when it came time to order drinks our server was nowhere to be found, and he often left the table too quickly to notice that some people were trying to get his attention. This improved as the night went on, and by the end of the meal, I didn't really consider the service to be a problem. The appetizers are not made to share, and you should prepare to drop some cash if you want to get anything for the table. $26 for 2 scallops is hefty with a group of 6. We settled on oysters, which were the only reasonable choice we could find. Luckily, a variety of freshly-baked breads (some with meat/broccoli and cheese) are served with a nice array of spreads/dips, and all of them were tasty. The bread will keep coming if you want it, and this could easily serve as your main appetizer. The lobster pici pasta was creamy and decently flavorful, but the portion was small for the price, which seemed to be a theme for the evening. The only exception was the Tomahawk, which was enormous and impeccably prepared. I wish I had gotten it myself, as the few bites I had were hands-down better than the NY strip I had at a steakhouse the night before. One of my friends found the short rib agnolotti quite lacking, with not much flavor to speak of. My wife had the spaghetti with meatballs, which was rather plain, to be honest. The pasta had a nice texture, but I've had better sauce out of a jar and the meatballs were underseasoned and bland. For dessert, we settled on the chocolate cake, which was OK but not mindblowing. It was moderately rich, but I've had richer cakes elsewhere. Additionally, the cake itself was quite small, which I found disappointing. Overall, I wouldn't go back to Scarpetta. It was too overpriced for the small portion sizes and unpredictable quality of the food. It would do better at a slightly lower price point or with more impressive menu items. The menu descriptions all sound great, but the execution was lackluster too often for my liking.
