  • I had really high hopes for this place. From her main website, it seems that Britt-Marie specialized in French pastries/macarons. And given the gorgeous photos and seemingly creative flavor descriptions, along with the wonderful yelp reviews (albeit still a small sample), I was looking forward to a glorious experience. The store was elegant and cute at the same time. There's a wall of alcoholic beverages, which I didn't try. Nor did I try the cakes. I went for macarons and suprisingly, they only had 3 flavors available: blue cheese bacon, rose, and gianduja - I tried all three. My friend and I also shared a small pot of coffee, which they serve in a do-it-yourself french press - cute The macarons were, however, a complete disappointment. If this was a review on macarons alone without the whole cafe experience, it would be barely deserving of one star. The shell was too crunchy for a macaron; either over-baked or left out to cool for too long. The filling did not blend well with the cookies as a real french macaron should; this was more of an oreo-like separate cookie and filling. The body of the cookie was also not fluffy and chewy (which a macaron should be able to magically achieve). Finally, the size of macarons should be quite uniform, but in our order of 6 macarons there were some that were obviously larger or smaller than the others. So in relative terms, if Laduree and Pierre Hermé macarons are deserving of 5 stars, then this again, is barely deserving of 1 star. However, putting things into perspective, you don't have to fly to NY or Paris for these, it's less than half the price of the high-end macarons, and as a whole package, Coquette Patisserie has a nice ambiance with nice staff, and certainly worth visiting.
