| - Let me preface this by saying I haven't been to Vegas in 10 years. Yes, I live in SoCal, but sometimes life and career happen. That aside, seeing the towering, cluster of buildings took my breathe away and he excitement was kind of overwhelming; I'm a 31-year-old man, just two months out of major abdominal surgery. I couldn't have asked for a better place to enjoy 24 hours of just fun, albeit toned down fun, but fun nonetheless.
After purchasing my room from Expedia and whatnot, I couldn't wait to get there. (Just FYI- date of arrival was 10-22-15 and departure, 10-23-15 AM) I counted down the days and seconds, etc. Valet is quite easy to find and on Tropicana (just a quick U-turn from Tropicana if you're coming from the 15 North). Our valet attendant was incredibly nice and welcomed us to the little bit of the isle of Manhattan on the West Coast. Exciting! It was such a rush waking through those double doors; the smell to me is highly intoxicating and a happy familiar smell that 10 years later feels like you've arrived in Vegas. Awesome sauce!
We got into the registration queue which took an astounding ...5 minutes to check in. Alfonso, I believe was his name, checked us in quickly. As my room was not a suite, was prepaid via Expedia, no credit card was required as I paid the resort fees in cash. No credit card needed for a hold for incidentals, deposit or anything. (Hope I answered some of the questions about that.)
After we got to our room assignment 2931, Century Tower A or 1, our awesome room on the 29th floor, the first room you come to once exiting was our room. Now, some might find that unappealing as it is so close to the elevator. However, for someone who isn't entirely at their prime (only 2 months out of surgery), it was a godsend. I must also mention, there was zero hallway traffic noise throughout the night. Zero, zilch.
We ventured to the Lobby Bar which is very quaint, we plumped down to two video poker games, pumped it with a $20, the first drinks of the day began. Cameron, at the Lobby Bar, is quite possibly the nicest, funniest and most accommodating bartender I've ever encountered. The bar was full and people from all parts of the casino wanted drinks from him. As busy as he was, he never faltered in giving each of his patrons the best service with utmost attention. Thank you, Cameron!
If I had one issue, it would be the mLife desk to check-in, sign up or redeem MyVegas app comps. It was about 3:30pm, the line was 25 people deep and only 2 registrars. There is also a separate line for mLife "high rollers" that trumps the rest of us who doesn't have all those points. I'd recommend, especially during peek check-in hours, there'd be more folks over there helping us out. I digress from the positive.
For dinner, I made reservations for my aunt's birthday at Nine Fine Irishmen and the 6 of us gathered there at 5:30. The lovely hostess explained the history and liveliness of the restaurant (my mom's family, which is who attended said dinner, comes from the UK, so we enjoyed it). We are, at times, heifers so we love trying as much as possible. We ordered the fried sausages with those delicious dipping sauces, the Beer Cheese dip with artisan breads and the baked Brie with balsamic marinated cherries; all 3 were unbelievably and insanely good. (Side note: the bartenders are no joke. Every drink that was ordered was delish). Our main entrees were 2 fish & chips, Shepherd's Pie, two Nine Fine Salads and one Bangers & Mash. All was delicious. I'm a trained chef and yes, I stand by these opinions on the food. Our server was very attentive and the expediter was also very nice and attentive. Just an all around great dinner.
I'm sure I've bored you enough with my review, but we gambled a bit and my traveling companion and I went to the Center Bar for drinks and some gambling. Drinks were fantastic (Cosmopolitan was amazingly cold with little floating chips of ice -- perfection!)
To top it alllll off, after the alcohol seeped in, we decided to order room service. I can't say enough about how great the menu is for us late night eaters who need booze sopped up. We ordered quite a bit (because why not) and were quoted 45 minutes or less; it was there in like 25-30, piping. Very happy!!!
We checked out today, Friday morning and the email to check out was super easy and key drop right in elevator waiting area on first floor. Got our car from valet and off we went back to Los Angeles.
I cannot thank you all enough at NYNY for making this trip, as short as it was, just so much fun and how happy I was. Thank you thank you thank you. From the bottom of my heart. Thank you.
