A friend gave me a gift certificate for a Thai massage for Christmas. Couldn't wait to use it as I'd heard so much about it from her. The minute I stepped inside I felt like I had been transported to an exotic island in Asia somewhere. I had a hot towel presented to me to freshen my hands and a cup of Lemongrass tea. The smell of lemongrass permeated the spa as well - a new scent for me but absolutely beautiful. I treated myself to a sauna before the massage on the advice of the staff, as it apparently warms up the muscles first. I was given these fisherman pants and a t- shirt to wear for the massage itself and was taken from the sauna to an area that was beautifully decorated - I'm told in the Thai tradition. I've had many kinds of massage before and usually like deep tissue and sports massage. This was such a unique experience because the practitioner was stretching me first and then going in deep. It hurt in that nice way you know when it's getting right in there but I never once felt it was too much. The most surprising thing is how well I slept that night. I've definitely become a convert to Thai massage and can't wait to go back. I've got health insurance and this place has RMT's on staff for both Thai massage and Swedish. Not that Swedish is appealing any more after this one!
