  • I was dismissed as a patient today. I made a comment about a whether I would feel comfortable with a person wearing a full headscarf working on me. Immediately all work stopped and I was reported. Then I was escorted to an office where this "director?)" asked me if I made the statements. I admitted it. She then said Midwestern University has a zero tolerance policy, and I was dismissed. The way it happened is that immediately after I made the comment, everyone left the cubicle. One hour later, the two students returned with this "Executive". She told me we were going to have a private talk. She also had a security guard with her. Her office was one floor above (on the main floor). We went into her office. She told me where to sit. She also had the security guard in the room. Then once I was asked if I mad the comment and admitted it, she said I was removed from the program. She said "people" had overheard me making comments. No information was given about the "people", so facing the accuser(s) is not a standard Midwestern University lives up to. Once she said i was dismissed, I said, "This is b***S***!" You take me out to the woodshed and talk to me like I am a kid, and make me follow you to your office with a security guard in attendance. I told het I felt like being expelled from High School. So I read the Midwestern University policy on harassment etcetera. It is clear that they have a no tolerance policy. But the discipline warning/reprimand up to dismissal. So my comment must have injured those "people" who overheard it to the level that immediate dismissal with a security guard was warranted. The security guard was instructed to stay with me while I signed for my medical records and refund for the amount I had paid for today's planned work. The security guard was then instructed to walk me out to the parking garage. Unfortunately I was pleased with the students and faculty up until this occurred. Certainly these students reported me to the "powers that be". More than likely I had offended them in a way that I am unaware of. From the policy: *This policy applies to all members of the University community, each of whom is expected to report promptly complaints about violations. Students found to be in violation of this policy shall be subject to disciplinary action, which may include, but is not limited to, disciplinary warning, disciplinary probation, suspension, or dismissal. No action shall be taken against anyone who submits a complaint that he or she believes to be valid - regardless of the outcome of the investigation; however, any person found to be intentionally dishonest in making the allegations or to have made them maliciously is subject to University discipline.* The demeaning way I was addressed was disturbing.
