  • As a boutique-type hotel with a convenient location on the strip, the Cromwell can be a fantastic place to lay your head depending on the rates - for some reason the Cromwell was cheaper than all the other Caesar's properties over Memorial Day weekend. LOCATION: Pretty much smack-dab in the middle of the strip: Next to the Flamingo, across from Bally's and Caesar's, and kitty-corner from the Bellagio. CHECK-IN: Unlike the mass chaos and long lines you'll find at the mega-hotels on the strip, the Cromwell is so small it only has two people at the small check-in desk. They also have online check-in, so the time elapsed from the time we walked in the door to the time we opened the door to our room was probably 5 minutes. ROOM: Our king room wasn't particularly large, but had enough room for a small l-shaped couch, a table/checker board, and a purple velvet chair. The closet space was adequate and had a very comfortable robe. Closest to the window was a makeup mirror/table and chair. It's well set up for ladies wanting to dress up and go out on the town. The makeup area is probably a waste of space for most guys. We had a view of the folks wandering around the outdoor area at Bally's and crossing the bridge as well as a partial view of the Bellagio fountains. Although there is a balcony overlooking Flamingo Road, the windows are permanently shut so you can walk out onto the balcony. There's also an awning over the balcony, which keeps out some of the hot sun but also lessens the view. The only real negatives are that there is no door between the toilet area and the sink/shower area, and there was no desk in our room making it difficult for those of you coming to Vegas for work. HOTEL/CASINO: The casino itself is small, but when it's not busy you can still find some $5 tables. Drinks at the bar will run you about $15 each, and it's right across from the small sports book. Within the first 15 minutes at the bar I saw a guy throw up in front of a slot machine, and two other guys being arrested/escorted out of the hotel. Blame the day drinking at Drai's beach club for that. FOOD: Free coffee machines are available in the elevator banks on certain floors. As a small property, there are only two on-site restaurants: Giada - brunch and Italian food with lots of light and windows looking out onto Caesar's and Bellagio; and Eatwell - a small, quick serve eatery with sandwiches, pizza, etc. that can deliver via cell phone orders.
