  • Built in 1971 and originally called "Taylor Memorial Public Library", this library is still useful and relevant. It has lost some things and gained some things; it traded some of its old artsy flair for a more futuristic and austere atmosphere. I used to go there as a kid and they had this push-button motor that would move paintings on a wall so you could admire the art. And they also once had a kids area that was very cozy with a recessed corner where you could sidle up to a bronze statue of a sleeping deer surrounded by line art drawings of kids in nature. Well one day they blasted that to smithereens and tossed the kids area downstairs to "Storage B" and now the upstairs is a much more rigid, ascetic serious atmosphere- like in the movie Gattaca. You will probably get your library needs met. But don't come here looking for nostalgia, laughter or mirth. Smiles here have mostly gone the way of the 25-cent Hershey bar.
