| - WARNING!! If you want to place an order with Signals, make sure you have plenty of EXTRA available credit on your credit card!! These slimy crooks process your pending payment twice, charging your card for double the amount you were expecting!! I checked my credit card activity online the day after I placed my order (the order for 2 items totaled $64.10). There was the pending charge for $64.10, and the 2 pending charges above it were also from signals, one for the listed price of one of the items,& the other for the price of the second item plus tax & shipping. These two pending charges added up to another $64.10. I called signals, foolishly thinking it could've been an honest mistake. I was informed by the snotty sales rep that it is their business practice to "guarantee" the purchase by charging the card for the items separately, and then again for the total amount of the purchase!!! "Guarantee" it?!?! WTF?!! If the card goes through for the original purchase, then it went through. They're getting their damn money. It's not like they need to protect themselves against possible damages, it's not a rental car. It's an item (or items) with set (probably overinflated) prices. Why could extra money possibly be needed from their customers?? Not to mention its more than a little insulting to have a policy that shows you automatically think your customers are all untrustworthy dirtbags who will stiff you for the price of their T-shirt or novelty gift. The bigger problem here- especially with the holiday season approaching!!- is that a pending charge for double the amount you are expecting will reduce your available credit, possibly for a sizable amount, without your knowledge!! Not only could this result in embarrassment if your card is declined and you have no idea why, but it could cause serious problems if you Needed to use your credit card but suddenly couldn't due to unavailable funds. After demanding to speak to a manager, I was "transferred" (& immediately disconnected). I had to call back & trudge through the automated phone option crap again. Again got a snotty sales rep who obviously couldn't care less about my dissatisfaction. I was then actually put through to a manager, who flatly informed me of the same policy of needing to "guarantee the funds". I told her that this is an insane policy,& that I have never seen ANY other company do that. And the fact they can tie up available funds on your credit card without even informing you is total bullshit! She told me the extra charge would disappear once the actual charge cleared, and it did (~48 hours after the order was placed). But I will never deal with this company again. Luckily, I saw the fraudulent extra pending charge & was not affected by it, but if I had placed a larger order right before Christmas, I can see how this could've turned into a major problem. Stay away from signals!!! (And their subsidiary/associated catalogs! The sales reps, however, are either not allowed or not able to give you the names of most of these catalogs. They did tell me they are connected to Bas Bleu, which I must say is a disappointment as I thought they were a classier company...)
