  • I'm always on the lookout for good Asian supermarkets that stock Thai ingredients, and this is the best one I've seen in Montreal. (Somewhat surprisingly, the "Thai Hour" market across the street doesn't have much in the way of Thai ingredients.) In addition to the easy-to-find Thai ingredients that almost every Asian market in the city has (things like keffir lime leaves, Thai basil, galangal, the golf-ball size green Thai eggplant, etc.), they also have ingredients that are more difficult to find (banana blossoms, green papaya), and things you almost never find (such as small white Thai eggplant, and the actual keffir limes). Their selection of preserved Thai ingredients is also pretty good, with all of the brands you would find in Thailand for your basic sauces, as well as more difficult to find things like Prik Pao (they have both small 225ml jars and larger 500ml jars) and palm sugar. In all, their selection is better than anything I saw at the Asian markets in Chinatown, those near Concordia (though the Jang-Teu Korean market near Atwater did have large plastic tubs of Masaman curry paste, which is usually only available in the smaller cans), or at Fu Tai (though Fu Tai did have two types of Suki sauce, which I don't think I saw here). I was also impressed with their fresh and healthy-looking rambutans (which tend not to travel very well), and two different varieties of finger bananas. I like the way they keep their herbs in puffy plastic bags inflated with air that allows them to breathe instead of squished together in tightly-sealed styrofoam trays. They have a nice selection of fish and meat, as well as a small counter at the front where they serve roast duck and char siu pork as well as pre-prepared Vietnamese dishes, deserts, and banh mi. Bottom line: if I lived in Montreal this would probably become my go-to place for Thai ingredients.
