Since I was already slightly overdue for a haircut when I first moved here, when I noticed a person I was talking to had a more-than-basic hairstyle that was still nicely done, I asked if she'd had her hair cut in town yet. She recommended a particular stylist at Hair Benders who had been recommended to her by someone else.
Having never been one to get cuts from a specific person, I just walked in and had my hair cut by whomever was available my first two times. The first cut was by Erin, who gave me a great cut, making suggestions for my hair type and also making sure to show me on her comb how much length she would take off. The next time someone else did the cut and while it turned out OK, I've gotten the same quality (and sometimes better) at fast, slightly cheaper chain places before. After that I always just made appointments with Erin and over several years, she gave me many good cuts, ranging from short to long. After some cuts, people who said they usually wait to get their hair done in Chicago or other countries even asked me where my hair was done. (The cuts people asked about were short or mid-length cuts.) Neither Erin's nor the other person's name sounded at all familiar when they introduced themselves so I don't think either was the originally recommended person.
The price is reasonable and location is very convenient to campus. They seem to serve a range of clients from college students to middle-aged and older ladies and gentlemen.
