| - I couldn't be more disgusted or disappointed in James, the owner of Penguin Pools. I had him for almost two years I am ashamed to say. The last eight months I have had a lot of health issues along with losing close family members to illness. James knew that and clearly took advantage of my misfortune. I had not been swimming in my pool and he had not been putting chemicals in it. When I was out of town he hadn't shown up because he figured I wouldn't catch him.
If I was home he walked around the pool with an unmarked milk jug that I am now certain only held water in it and poured it in the pool. My pool has never ever looked this bad, white scale all over it and I drained it and had fresh water put in it not that long ago. Now it looks even worse. When I asked him about it some time ago he said, "it don't look that bad".
"It's perfect, your waters good." Of course every week asking me when was I going out of town again.
If I asked him one simple question, he would get extremely defensive. He talked me into these solar circles, giving me this big song and dance that they were made by NASA. He said I wouldn't have to ever heat my pool and they would be easy for me to take them in and out of the pool. He said he could get them for me at his cost. I fell for it. He got them for me all right and charged me about $90.00 each for them. I found them on line today for $23-$30.00 on Amazon. He took me for hundreds of dollars.
I asked James if I could pay by credit card about a year ago, he replied "nope only cash or check, I don't take credit cards." Two weeks later I am talking with his sister and she tells me that half of Jim's customers pay by credit card. I know that should have been a red flag for me. I said to her can I pay by credit card she said sure. When I asked him about it, he said he was only joking with me. Cindy, his sister set it up and then two months later they charged my card ten days early. Then, the next month they charged me another ten days early and then twice a month, after that. I called her and asked her ...what's going on? She said she would look into it and get back to me. James comes by following week makes no mention of it then I ask him why are you charging me a month early and twice a month. He said, "I doubt that, Cindy doesn't make mistakes". I said well neither does my credit card company. I said hold on and I can show you...he says I'll look into it and left.
On Monday I left her another message. She claimed she was in rehab and had someone else doing the billing. Then James offers no apolgy the next week and says all his clients pay on the first of the month...hmmm after a year, that's news to me.
All the red flags were their but I had no time or the ability to deal with it, after all, I was caring and grieving for others.
I bought a test kit and tested my water because all the red flags were there. All the numbers were high, then I took a sample to Leslie's to double check and she gave me my printed report. Every number was off the charts and she said it was the worse one she had seen, and that I have to drain my pool yet again.
When James was here this week I asked him to test the water he says he already did it. The entire time I was watching him, he did not test it. I said oh what are the numbers and he says they are perfect. I said what are they and he says 5 3 and 2. I asked him again what the numbers were and which was what. Then he got defensive and angry. I said James come here I want to show you something. He turned his back to me and ignored me. I walked over to him and showed him the Leslie's report. He turned to his helper and said we are out of here.
I too was paying him $120.00 per month. Their were times he didn't show when I was gone, other times claiming he was sick but he never bothered to call, or claiming he had trouble with lock.
I agree with Walt's review he is rough around the edges.
