  • i would give them 10 stars if i could!! the first great love of my life .... the Calgary Stampeders - these are the three events , in my opinion , that made Calgary what it is today: The first Stampede in 1912 , Leduc # 1 in 1947 and the beginnings of big oil, and the Stampeders grey cup victory of 1948 with the stetsons , flap jacks in downtown Toronto and the horses in the Royal York.... Willie Burden , John Helton , Doug Flutie and the best logo in pro sports ( the old school cowboy on the bronc in front of the football - not the mustang on the helmets( i think we cribbed that from SMU)) the greatest memories of my childhood were those of McMahon stadium and the red and white
