  • I'm here to follow up with a review that I've been meaning to do for about three weeks now (it's now May 10th, 2011). I had Mister Sparky send out an electrician on Sunday, April 17th as I had a dining room light, more specifically the line wasn't getting any power I had thought, so I ended up calling this service. I had a similar issue that Dave J. had on his review. I overpaid way too much for the simple work that was done. I paid $288 for nothing more than a diagnostic and twisting a few wires together. The power was fine all along and the wires were twisted up a bit (and I hate messing with wires, plumbing, which is why I call service people when I have issues even if the issues are simple by someone more handy than me). Basically, the electrician when he got there, showed me their list of options ....it starts at $89, $149, $199, all the way up to $1,289. (There are 10 rates total). So the electrician pretty much pushed the $199 option in my direction and the way it was presented to me was that's the one I needed. I don't know any better, hence the reason I call an electrician. Well he's at my place for a total of 45 mins and get the light working with doing minimal work ...like I said twisted a few wires and voila. No parts, nothing replaced, just a little looking around and he got it working. I ended up paying $288 ($199+$69 for the service call fee + taxes and one other $8.75 fee). $288 for 45 mins and to do hardly anything, I felt like I just got hit with a freight train. Well a day goes by and I'm starting to get bothered by the amount I paid, then another day goes by and I'm even more annoyed now at what I paid for the little work done. For whatever reason, the more time passed, the more irritated I became. So I got on the Mister Sparky website and I write an email to corporate displaying my unhappiness with the charges for the little work done. 20 minutes later my phone rings. Here's where I'm reviewing the Phoenix Mister Sparky and giving them a good review. The owner, Chris, calls me and was willing to do whatever he needed to do to satisfy me. He genuinely cared and didn't want me to be a frustrated customer. He went over a few things with me, the charges and the breakdown. He knew I felt the charges of $288 didn't fit the work done, and that I felt like I was presented with the $199 option and not the two lower than that, he felt it was a training issue with his electrician and would correct that with him so he better presented other options. Chris flat out asked what would it take to make this better, and I obviously said something about the charges, so he was willing to bill me $150 and not the $288. I almost felt bad because of my bitching that I told him if he just did the minimum option of $89 plus the service call of $69 plus the tax, that would be fine. I mean the guy was being really nice and cared. My bill ended up at $171 and that was a huge improvement from $288. I was satisfied with that and the reason I'm giving a good rating is simply because Chris was easy to talk with and cared enough to make good on the situation. I still think the prices might be a tad high (but what do I know since I never used an electrician before), but the loyal part of me would want to use Chris' company again, but I certainly would make sure I know what I'm going over with the electrician and ask all the questions I need to before agreeing to have them do the work. If I ever need something as simple as my issue, I'd likely just use a Handyman (I didn't think to call the couple I've used before because I really thought something was wrong with my light and wall switch, so I felt an electrician was best to get out to assess the issue). All in all, $171 might be a bit high for something so simple, but maybe $100 or $125 would have not seemed so bad, and what's another $50 or $70 difference with that, so overall spending $171 for getting my light working properly after I didn't have use of my dining room light working for years, $171 to get it working is ok with me in the grand scheme of things. I'm just glad my experience with Chris was pleasant and I'd like to compliment him for caring, and handling it so quickly. If you end up using them for anything, maybe ask to talk with Chris if you have any questions that you feel the appointment setter might not be able to clarify. Thanks Chris at Mister Sparky for at least caring.
