  • I was so excited to see that I could book an appointment online. I'd never been to an Ulta salon, and they had a special going, 25% off the first salon visit, so I figured, why not? Well, let me tell you why not. I booked my appointment with Katrina for 6:30. A cut and style was supposed to take an hour, give or take. I wasn't changing drastically, so I figured I'd be out by 7:30, tops. Well, at 7:05 Katrina finally called me back. I showed her pictures of what I was trying to do with my hair. (Same shot of the same celebrity on the same day, but from different angles. She had a clear view of what I wanted. Nothing big or overwrought, but a simple cut without a lot of layering, with a side bang hitting right at my eyebrows.) I told her that the most important thing was that I needed something low-maintenance that would work with my naturally wavy hair, while I'm trying to grow out a bad haircut, and I didn't want to lose a lot of length. While I was in the chair, she spent a good 15 minutes chatting with a friend who used to work there, gossiping about the other people who worked there, and practically ignoring me. She *barely* blended the layers from what I had before, putting the widest part of the volume at the widest part of my face where I didn't want it (having already explained that the thing that made my previous haircut so awful was that I'm in the middle of a major weight loss, 40 pounds so far this year, and didn't want a cut that made my face look rounder or made it look like I was still fat). She cut the bangs so long that they were touching my cheekbones, even though in the pictures they were right at the actress's eyebrows at the longest part. When I questioned her on it, she informed me that "you're going to want them longer than that." I had to tell her four times that yes, I did want my bangs short enough to actually look like bangs. She then proceeded to take a round brush and blow the natural texture that I had said was important to me OUT of my hair. By the time I got to the register, it was well past 8pm. I handed the paper she'd printed to the cashier, and she rang the haircut up at full price. When I mentioned that the discount was supposed to be applied, the cashier then made me step out of line while someone went back to the salon and had Katrina re-ring my service. Then, rather than asking me whether I'd like to add a tip, the person who ended up actually taking my card asked me *how much* of a tip I'd like to add. As if I'd tip after that. Here's a tip for you. Listen to your client!
