  • I'm surprised South Hills Village Mall doesn't average a better rating here, but I've only been going there within the past year, so maybe I've missed out on some things that "used to be" or whatnot, but right now it stands as one of my fave malls in the Pittsburgh area. One of the things that draws me here versus closer malls like Robinson is that it never seems crowded. Even during the Christmas shopping season this past December it was amazingly easy to navigate, and I vow every year to never step foot near a mall in December. The parking lot can be rather full, but once you get in there, it's really relaxed. Part of that reason might have to be due to the fact that there's a freakin' Target built into the mall. I love Target! Who doesn't? This is a big plus for me, because if I wander around the mall and don't find anything that interests me, I'll certainly be able to spend a few bucks in Target. And this Target is as good as any other one I've been in. The food court is a drag, I'll admit. I got excited the first time I visited, thinking that the Chicken Now was something that was coming soon, but apparently I missed its actual existence. Bummer. I love that place. The other joints aren't too exciting, although last time I was there Noodles and Co. were getting ready to open soon, and I do like me some Noodles. Usually, I just eat at Red Robin and bypass the main food court. There's also the always reliable Eat N Park next to the mall as well. Like everything else around Pittsburgh, there are about three or four ways to get to South Hills Village, and I often find myself going out there via one route and coming back a completely different one, so the trip is always interesting to say the least. The winding back road route is always a pleaser. So yeah, South Hills Village gets my thumbs up. It's clean, it actually has a few stores that I like wandering into even in my newly minted middle age, and the crowds aren't ever too crazy. The surrounding stores in the area are also ones I enjoy, such as Burlington Coat Factory and Half Price Books, so it's a good area for commerce all around. Plus, did I mention there's a TARGET?! Yeah. Target pwnz.
