  • I stayed here for four nights (5/14- 5/17) at the recommendation of a friend. I guess it has been awhile since she has stayed there because it seems that the Arizona Biltmore is not what it once was. I had a great experiance making the reservation so I had high hopes. At check-in I was informed my room was not ready even though check-in is at four pm and I arrived about ten minutes after four pm. The girl at the front kindly offered an "upgrade" although I suspect she just put me in a different room then intended because this room seemed exactly like the one described to me when I made my reservation. I paid $369 per night but after taxes and resort fees the total really is more like $470 a night- mind you that includes the depost/fee for my dog to come along. So anyways this is not a cheap place to stay and I didn't want to stay somewhere cheap- I wanted to stay somewhere NICE. My husband and I were visiting our in-laws in Phoenix while on our babymoon so this was like my last chance to be somewhere and feel pampered. I can tell you the difference between here and other five star or five diamond resorts and one is that at check-in my dog generally gets a toy. That isn't a big deal but it's the little things. The room was nice enough, the bed cozy and the shower nice, and it was pretty clean, but the toilet paper was HORRENDOUS. I mean so terrible that it crumbled away in my fingertips anytime I had to go pee which is a TON because I am 7 months pregnant. So that was pretty annoying. Why should I leave my house to pay these prices just to downgrade basic items? The other thing is that the toilet ran on it's own about every 3- 40 minutes. The front desk was kind enough to send Dimitry out to try to fix it but to no avail. Dimitry explained all the utilities are from the 1950's and parts that they once used are discontinued. Dimitry was great- he really is! For the last three nights we slept with both bathroom doors closed but it was still annoying. Another nuicance was that the hotel could not provide us with a working safe. I called and the front desk connected me to security. Security in so many words told me "too bad." Security said parts are on order, people leave with keys, and that it could not be fixed but they would call me back later. Security never called back so I called the front desk and told them politely that it is imperative we get a lock box for our room and that most lower-end hotels provide this. The front desk, after calling security themselves, said that parts are on order and this is an issue in many rooms and that perhaps we could use the lockbox that their manager is in charge of. That was nice of them but I should not have to explain to them why a lockbox is imperative to us and having one in our room. My husband is in law enforcement and he is not going to just hand them over his gun and badge and credentials! UM NOOOO. This became an issue the entire stay that we couldn't let housekeeping in the room on one day or had to keep items elsewhere for our stay. I'd like to say also that the first place I went to after my bags were delivered to my room was to the Illy Cafe. The Asian girl was incredibly rude and so I never went back to the cafe during my stay. I gave her $1 tip just in case I was going to go back to hopefully improve her attitude should I see her again. First off when I walked in a light did not work, which is fine, but when she has her back turned away from the door and is on her phone or a calculator it really gives the impression that they are closed at 5pm rather then 6pm as the front desk told me. I had to ask for her attention since she ignored me walking in and looking around. I noticed three people who came in decided to leave while I was there by the way so obviously she is losing sales left and right because she can't even greet people. I asked her for a half-caf and she asked rudely if that meant half-coffee. I know this isn't Starbucks. Actually Illy is supposed to be BETTER then Starbucks and I know this because we have a few in Vegas and they are my favorite coffee shops! Even though this was a terrible first impression almost everyone else at the resort was very kind. Front desk was polite and I loved Sherri at Frank & Albert's. Sherri really knows how to take care of people and she is very sweet. She served us breakfest twice during our stay here. I absolutely won't be back again because it just isn't worth the money when a resort that is supposed to be the crem de la crem can't accomodate you with a lockbox or a toilet that doesn't stop running and they didn't even TRY to make up for these issues. That is what kills me.
