| - We took Tucker, our poodle, to TSCV for a check up and vaccinations. The veterinarian and vet tech were great and the wait was short so we decided to sign up for a health plan because we liked them. During our visit, we told the vet and the vet tech that our dog needs to be groomed, but he needs to be sedated because various groomers had refused to groom him since he's terrified of groomers and acts up once clippers are involved.
The vet tech assured us that sedation for grooming was no problem and promptly set up an appointment for us that Friday on 6/17. She also said that he could have his heart worm test while he was sedated because he's also terrified of needles/shots.
On Thursday 6/16, the day before the appointment, the groomer called and told us that they could not do a sedation grooming appointment on Friday, because the only groomer who can do sedation grooming (her) did not work on Friday. She offered to move the appointment to Monday. That was fine, no big deal. We all make scheduling errors.
On Monday 6/20, we arrived at 9 am so Tucker could be sedated early and be groomed. We called at 3 pm because we hadn't heard anything and the groomer said that she was still waiting for him to be sedated. She said she bathed him and thought he could handle the grooming without sedation, but then realized he couldn't and at that point there were too many medical emergencies and no veterinarians to sedate him. She said she should have had him sedated earlier but she is trained to do it without sedation and thought he'd be ok, which I get. But we told the vet, vet tech and the groomer countless times that he NEEDS sedation based on many previous accounts.
Now, we call back at 4:45 pm and still no sedation. She says that its getting late and she doesn't want to stay much later either so if no one can sedate him in the next hour we will have to bring him back the next morning. Mind you, Tucker is already a very anxious dog (stemming from past abuse as a puppy/he's a rescue) and he hasn't eaten or drank anything since the day before at midnight because he's supposed to be sedated early. We ask to speak to the manager and no one is available. We tell her that we don't want to take him home and then bring him back the next day and pay FULL PRICE for a sedation and grooming that should have been done today and she says thats not up to her.
Lastly, she says we can wait an hour to see if a vet is available or pick him up. We decide to go pick him up and while on our way she calls back at 5:06pm that he will be sedated and groomed in 1 hour. He's not finished until 6:45 pm.
We wouldn't sedate Tucker for grooming unless it was absolutely necessary and in this case it is. Now, he waited 9 hours to be sedated and groomed. He didn't even get his heart worm test. And when we complained the groomer made excuses (she thought he wasn't going to need sedation? WE TOLD YOU HE WOULD. No vets available?). She should have had him sedated this morning and not have put him off until the end of the day when there were apparently no vets available. Of course, we don't want Tucker's grooming sedation to be a priority to sick pets in emergency but he was there 9 hours and there are MULTIPLE vets.
We should have heeded Brandy M's review and not have brought Tucker here. Usually we can shrug off bad experiences but we literally had to make a yelp account to review this place. It was that bad. This place bites off more than it can chew. There's obviously no structured process for sedation and grooming set between the veterinarians and the groomers. We will not be coming back to TSVC and if you have a dog that needs sedation for grooming, I highly recommend that you do not either.
