| - The Bagel Factory has gotten worse and worse, and more and more expensive, with each visit over the past 10 or so years I've been visiting the various locations. While the Squirrel Hill location at least has halfway decent bagels still, the Oakland location doesn't even have that.
I ordered the breakfast scramble with turkey. There was some debate with the kitchen on if there is in fact turkey. This has happened nearly every time I order something with turkey, and they are often out it. They determined that they did have it, but when my order came to over $14 dollars for the breakfast scramble and a large coffee, it gave me pause. When I asked how much the scramble was, I was told $8.99 plus $1.50 for the turkey addition. I pointed out the the menu stated that the correct price was $7.99, plus the $1.50, a price that has clearly gone up recently as is is printed on paper and taped over the original. The woman at the counter just stared at the menu board, and said, "I think he changed the prices." Umm, NO. You can't just charge people whatever the hell you feel like!
I really should have just left but I was honestly too flustered to think clearly. So I changed my order to an everything bagel with veggie cream cheese for $2.99, which is still more expensive than any other bagel place around. And, I have no idea if that is what I was actually charged, as they didn't give me a receipt, and the posted prices seem to mean nothing.
And then the bagel was abysmal. So tiny. So unbelievably stale tasting. I've had better bagels from a plastic bag in the freezer section. This is the last time I will ever come here. If a place called the freaking BAGEL FACTORY can't make a passable bagel, it's pretty pathetic.
