| - Full Disclosure: I sell 100k cars part-time. Unfortunately I can't afford one of those, as awesome as they are.
I am a '01 Mustang owner, and am intent on purchasing a '13 or '14, depending on price and options. I tend to go to an exhaustive extent when researching and making any purchase, and in this relatively more expensive case, I have been looking at new Mustangs for about two years, with more intent to purchase in the past six to eight months.
I used this particular dealership to cut me a new key, as I live less than five miles away, and received a phone call asking about my vehicle, and whether or not I would be interested in trading it in. This is where red flags starting popping up-I told them the Mustang's paint was gone, the tranny was bad, it had a class II oil leak from the rear main, significant damage to the fender, and the EGR system needed to be fixed, yet they still told me they could "get me a great deal!" (if that's true, I have a bridge to sell you).
I've driven it into the ground, so I knew I wouldn't get much, but was more interested in purchasing off the lot anyway. We set an appointment to meet with "Zack".
I went into Berge knowing the product line, and desiring to get more hands on with the actual car, before making the purchase. I deliberately went in after work, so I'm sure I looked unkempt, but generally on time for the appointment. Zack was not. It appears that this was just a tactic to get me on the floor, which is fine I guess.
I was particularly interested in Sync, and how it worked with my phone. Zack brought me inside, and asked what options I was interested in, to see if they had something available.
They didn't of course-it existed, but not on their lot. They asked me how much I could afford to pay a month-another sign of ignorance, as I am more interested in total cost of the vehicle. Based on how much I told them, they felt that trying to upsell me to a BOSS 302 or even the GT500 was more my style. I love the Boss, but I can't afford it, and I made that extremely clear.
So rather than showing me Sync in the Mustang like I asked, Zack took me into one of their F-150's. This is where I really started getting irritated, but I maintained my bearing. He said it was "basically the same thing", but it's not-one's a truck and one's a pony car.
One of Zack's associates popped his head in the cab, and asked about why I was waiting to purchase, which is a fair question-this was back when the 50th anniversary edition could have been released as a 2014, and before the new redesign. I was happy waiting for more news on whether or not that would happen (it's happening with the new design in '15).
This guy then proceeded to sell me a ridiculous line-despite me telling the both of them I was in the car business, so it's MY JOB to keep up on trends, they told me Ford wasn't redesigning the Mustang. They instead were releasing the "GT1000", a 1000 HP Mustang-I knew this was bull because they already existed as Super Snakes and Cobra Jets-there's going to be a Shelby 1000 in 2014, but the redesign is DEFINITELY HAPPENING, and has been old news for some time.
This is when I left. These people are toxic sellers, and although there's nothing wrong with making money, there is something wrong with lying to customers. This experience happened almost a year ago, yet I still remember how bad of an experience I had. If you're going to spend money on a new vehicle, go somewhere else.
The only reason this is not 1 star is because the service department isn't so bad, and maybe I got unlucky with who I got paired with. I went to Earnhardt in Chandler and had a completely different and positive experience.
