This review is for the Intro to Handgun class. A 2 hour class for just over $100. The contracted instructor was Fred Ruiz from Method Enterprises and he was excellent. I went to a firing range a long time ago with a friend and I found it quite intimidating. I've been thinking about taking a class for a while now and finally signed up with a co-worker.
I wanted to feel more comfortable with the idea of having a firearm for protection at home. There were 5 students in the class and we all had similar goals, but with varying degrees of experience. I would say I came in with about zero experience. 3 of the other students brought their own guns, while my co-worker and I rented (included in cost). We just had to buy our ammo (came out to less than $20 and I used about half the box) and they provided the goggles and ear protection.
After Fred did the lecture portion, giving us the basics and giving us a mindset of safety, we went to a lounge that contained private shooting stalls. I liked Fred's teaching style because with each round he gave us a focus and checked every student's form. He was right there giving instruction which is always comforting to me. It was rewarding because I could tell I was improving with each try and I learned that I'm a pretty good shot!!
I now feel more comfortable with the idea of owning a gun and could imagine myself geeking out on shooting competitions! Lol! One last thing - Fred made it a point to mention that safety is not just about having a firearm. He's a proponent of taking every other precaution to make our homes and persons safe. It is a lifestyle to stay vigilant and safe. I like it!
