  • I called Ken along with 5 other hvac companies first thing this morning, when we realised our ac was on the fritz. Ken was the 3rd person to get back to me, but the 1st guy was 2 days booked out (who I had used in the past) another guy who wanted a $50 service call fee, which I politely declined, and then Ken who said he was in sun lakes, not too far from me and could be there in 1hr to 1hr 30min. 2hr 15 minutes later, Ken shows up, proceedes to my roof where he is at for 15 minutes. I hear my unit go on, off, on, off, starts blowing a little cooler than before. then Ken walls up, asks me 3 really technical questions(in regards to ac jargon, all of which in unsure of, then tells me it's going to be $1300 and change, which I was a little shocked because the last two techs who had serviced my unit told me, this thing is a champ, and ill never need to put more than $500-600 in it. So, obviously I'm not going to proceed with the this, or at least immediately without other quotes. I share this with Ken, and he says, totally understandable but that'll be $65 for my call today, which he never previously stated. He has already confirmed he had literally done nothing other than switch from heat to cold, and looks for leaks in the freon and the burned caps on the capacitors. I politely told him I wasn't going to be paying him $65 for his "service fee" because he never said anything of the matter until after I said I wasn't going to do his $1300 in charges. I told him I understand his time isn't free but $65 for 15 mins of his time when he never stated anything of the matter is ridiculous. He proceeded to say that I could pay him whatever I feel fair but he WOULD NEVER BE DOING WORK AT MY PROPERTY AGAIN. So, now I'm supposed to pay him for literally nothing? a quote that really isn't a quote? look, I'm a fair person, everyone's time has value, BUT, I've never had any contractor in any industry try and sneak the service fee after the fact. Plumbers, locksmiths, landscapers, general contractors, all quote service fees upfront, or not at all. KEN PROCEEDED TO STAND ON MY FRONT PORCH FOR 10 MINUTES AND THEN SIT IN HIS CAR FOR THE NEXT 10. BE VERY CAUTIOUS OF HIS SHADY ANTICS.
