  • checking out at 4:30am bleary-eyed to catch a 7am flight. get down to the lobby and panic sets in. wait...where are the rental car keys!?! we tear open the suitcases, run back up to the room and turn it upside down. NO KEYS! Holy mother of g-d, we're going to miss our flight! what do we even do now? call AAA? call Hertz? call POTUS? Oh the humanity :( So i go to the front desk area, which is essential a ghost town this time of morning, and find the night manager on his laptop. "Sir" I say, trying to control the panic in my voice "did someone turn in car keys???" I get back a bored, disinterested "huh? no one told me nothing about any car keys". Then he's back looking at his laptop. The guy acted like I asked him if he knew where I left yesterday's newspaper. I'm like "sir, can you kindly get up and go through these draws behind the counter and look? please, this is important I need to get to the airport". He acts pained that I made him stop watching the movie or whatever he was doing on his laptop (i hope he was at least watching porn which would make it understandable why he didn't want to stop watching, but I have no idea if he was) and makes a half-hearted attempt at looking in the desk. The whole time convinced that because no one mentioned finding keys to him, they couldn't possible be there. Finally I make him roust the night custodian to take me out to the pool to look there, and then he finally comes out to the pool with "is your car a Kia? I found Kia keys in the manager's desk". Of course it's a Kia and of course those are the missing keys. Seriously, you thought it was just a coincidence that I lost keys and you stumbled upon some in the managers desk? Had I not been an aggressive di*k to that guy, I'd have missed my flight and the manager would have showed up at 8am and said "oh, I locked them up in my desk, why didn't he look there". At the end, I tried to engage him in a conversation saying "do you now see why I pushed you to check everywhere?", but he was just gave me a cold wall of professional responses like "sir, I'm not going to answer that question" "sir, I hope you enjoyed your stay". Which I was actually kinda impressed with. Hyatt at least trained him well on how to handle an irate, annoyed patron.
