  • Until today I would have given Tempe Dental Care 5 Stars. The office is clean, the staff friendly, and the dentists and hygienists do an excellent job. Now, I won't be returning. Last week, I had to cancel an appointment last minute. I called the day of the appointment and apologized for canceling because of a last minute extremely important meeting that got scheduled for my work at the same time. The front office woman I spoke with over the phone graciously waived the fee for appointments not canceled 24 hours in advance without me even asking. I re-scheduled for today at noon over the phone with her at that time. When arriving at the office the first woman checked me in and said that they just needed updated medical history on me and she sat me down with some paperwork to fill out. About 5 minutes later, I was called to the front desk thinking great! Time for my appt. The second woman then informed me that they canceled my appointment for today. I asked why and she said that it was required that I call and confirm I would be coming to the appointment the day before which I did not. She also mentioned that they tried to call me 25 min before my appointment to confirm of to which I explained I saw they called when I arrived at the office but I do not use my phone while driving. I also explained I was aware of the 24 hour cancelation policy which is why I did NOT call as I intended to come to the appointment. Even when I was not able to come last week and was not able to cancel 24 hours in advance I still called as a courtesy to tell them I would not make it. As far as I know there is NO required confirmation policy as I re-listened to the voice mail they left me the night before and it did not say that a confirmation call was required. They informed me that they filled my appt. time with someone else and they needed to keep their hygienists busy. This is completely understandable to fill the spot with someone else should someone not show, but I showed up to my appointment on time and they sat me in the waiting room filling out paperwork with the impression I would be seen. I explained that I had to leave work 40 minutes prior just to get to the appointment on time traveling from north Scottsdale and asked if they could get me in. They said they could not until 1pm a whole hour after my scheduled time. This would not work as I had to be back for a presentation at 2pm. I told them I would not be back and upon leaving a rude gentleman standing at the front yelled in the most sarcastic voice possible. "Byeeeeeeeee" as if a paying customer was a good riddance. If he is a part of your staff (dark framed glasses, dark hair, wearing a plaid shirt sleeve shirt today) he was completely out of line. Bottom line, I do not believe businesses should cancel appointment for customers at their own whim when they show up to an appointment on time and have clearly carved out a huge chunk of their day to get there. If this is a way of "showing the customer who is boss" it is a very poor business tactic and only reflects poorly on your business.
