  • I went to Discount Tire on Wednesday morning (10/12/16) on my way to work to get air in the tires of my 1997 Toyota Camry. Because I was on my way to work I was in work attire which consisted of a dress and heels. As I waited in a nearby parking spot an employee by the name of Christian came up to me asking me when the last time I got my tire pressure checked. I told him I had no idea. He then asked me if my low pressure light was on, I explained to him no, I had never seen that light since I've owned the car. He suggested we find the "reset" button so that it would come on in the future. Christian asked me to look in the glove compartment, I couldn't find it. He then suggested I look underneath the dash on the driver side and then passenger side. He even told me that this reset button would be yellow. I let him know that I wasn't finding anything, he told me it would be further back. I had to reposition my body many times to look further back to where he was pointing while crouching down. After I wasn't able to find anything, he told me it could be underneath the front seats and that I would need to get in my back seat to look underneath them. He took a dog cage out for me and moved both my seats forward giving me room in the back seat. I begin searching underneath the driver's seat with both my hands and knees on the floor and while doing this he was at the door closest to me where my head was. Before I know it, I hear his voice telling me that "It'd be further back underneath the seat"... But instead of him being where he was before, he was now on the opposite side of the car looking in where my bottom was. My bottom was in the air as I was crouching down to be able to look in the area he told me to only because I thought he was still in the same spot as before... I quickly jumped up feeling uneasy about this entire situation once I realized he changed positions and had a clear view of the back of my body that I didn't want him to see. There was still no signs of a button. Christian then told me it could be in the trunk. He unloaded everything out of my trunk which included two bags, a dog play pin and my golf clubs so that I could search my trunk. He again told me it'd be further back to the point that I had to climb in my trunk while holding my dress down to search. STILL no button. He loaded my trunk back up and told me "sorry to waste your time. If you want to pull in here, this guy will fill up your tires". As I replayed this in my head more throughout the day, I knew something was off. I've never felt more vulnerable in my life then I did at that moment lying down in the trunk of my own car looking for a "reset button" that this man said would be there. I decided to ask my dad, who knows a lot about cars -especially mine, if my car even has a reset button. Right away he said no. I then asked if my car has a tire pressure light, he told me no, my car was definitely too old. I was shocked and in disbelief that this Discount Tire employee would have me climbing all throughout my car just so he could stare at me while I searched for a made up button. After doing a little research, I discovered that the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) didn't come about until the 2005 model of the Toyota Camry. In addition, newer Camry's do have a reset button but they are only located in the glove compartment, not underneath the dash, not underneath the front seats, not in the trunk and not in a 1997 model. The Discount Tire employee "helping" me was Christian Martinez, Assistant Manager of this Tempe location. I know very well that someone in his position is educated enough to know this. Discovering all this made me realize that I was being harassed and told to move my body around in positions for his viewing pleasure. An entire week has gone by since I've spoke to the Manager about this occurrence and Discount Tire has yet to take any action on Christian. I'm appalled that Discount Tire would want such an employee working for them. I think it's important to warn other customers about this so they are not taken advantage of like I was, as he is still "helping" customers every day.
