| - Without the intention of becoming overly hyperbolic, going to Balance Integrated Healthcare changed my life.
I started seeing their in-house naturopathic doctor, Dr. Shannon Munkley, back in 2012. I was sick all the time. I had heart palpitations, no energy, and even drinking water made me want to vomit. I was in hell. My own family doctor did the family doctor thing and told me that I "may have IBS" and I should maybe consider "not drinking milk." Ok...
Dr. Munkley had me keep a food log. From there, she narrowed down the foods that may have been making me sick and had me start an elimination diet. Meanwhile, she recommended different supplements that my body was likely lacking in (never pressuring me to buy from her, but she always had them available for purchase), and she pointed out stores in my area where I could find specialty foods for my new diet and recommended brands that she swears by personally.
Within a couple weeks, I was a new person. Without any intrusive tests she was able to determine what was wrong with me, and put me on the path to fixing myself. And once she felt I was in a good place, she sent me off into the world armed with knowledge and a better understanding of what was wrong with me. She didn't force me to stay on, or schedule expensive weekly visits once I was better. That being said, she made me feel like her door was always open should I continue to experience problems. I haven't had to go back.
Since those visits, I have lost almost 50 pounds. My energy levels have soared, and I feel like a better version of me. I would heartily recommend her as a naturopathic doctor if you are sick and feel like you are getting nowhere with your family doctor. Naturopathic visits are often partially covered by your insurance benefits, and in Ontario you can claim them on your taxes. The initial consult costs $180, and it's $75 for every 30 minute session after that. I found I rarely went over 30 minutes. And honestly, it was worth every penny to feel comfortable in my own body.
