First let me say that getting here is a challenge. Downtown Madison is NOT easy to navigate. Add in multiple street closures...well it wasn't easy.
We lucked out, though. Found on street parking. It was also UW graduation weekend. We were early so managed to get seated without having a reservation. Our server, Julio, was excellent. Because it was graduation weekend, the menu was pre fixe. And that was fine. My sweet wife had a filet and I took Julio's recommendation and ordered a dry aged NY strip.
We supplemented with the hash browns and garlic mashed. The hashbrowns were very good, the mashed had more garlic than we preferred.
But the steaks, the steaks, were excellent. A restaurant with steakhouse in the name and a menu with premium pricing should have excellent steaks. And they were.
Creme brulle for desert. Also VERY tasty.
Why four stars and not five? Well, in my head, five stars are reserved for "blown away." Johnny Delmonicos is excellent for sure. Was I blown away? Not on the visit. Maybe the next.
