  • You guys. I know we live in Cleveland and are spoiled with big, sprawling, iconic museums, but we need to show the smaller ones love, too. Keep in mind: The Women's Air and Space Museum is located at Burke Lakefront Airport. Its free and you literally just walk in. This is obviously very different than other museums we are used to, so keep your expectations realistic. I'm not an aviation fanatic but I appreciate it...and of course, anything feminist immediately has my heart. There are some cool artifacts here: the first soda dispenser used in space, personal items recovered from the wreckage of doomed flights, 2 model planes, various flight clothing, flight log books dating in the 1940's, etc. This is truly a "stop and read" museum and I highly recommend a guided tour if you can get one. Do not expect the glitz and glamour of a Smithsonian. The heart is here. I think its really cool to have a museum exclusively interested in women in aviation, with an emphasis on our local history. I really appreciate what they are doing with their content. In the midst of this private airport, which surely a lot of businessmen stroll through, contains a history of women's aviation and walls adorned with quotes by Amelia Earhart and Peggy Whitson. That in itself is cool to me. They also have a small gift shop and some unique programming supported by local foundations. In February, they're hosting a dinner with Delta Airlines' first African American female captain, Stephanie Johnson. If you appreciate women's history or have a little feminist in your life at any age, its worth seeing at least once.
