Friend & I saw Iliza Shlesinger here last night.
She was fantastic. 2/3 of the openers were great. One of the local ones was just awful though, crude and shrill and ick. I'm surprised she was booked.
This is a surprisingly nice venue. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is neat; you go in at the 2nd floor outside, then either go downstairs to the main floor area with the traditional tables, or upstairs to the balcony area where everyone sits at bar-like areas. The only downside to the seating is if you get one of the tables downstairs where someone has to spin 180* to watch the stage.
It is dark as hell upstairs. You won't be able to see your menu or the food.
As other reviewers say, what really turned me off this place was the drink minimums & prices, and the pushy way it's gone about. Typically I am planning to have a drink & order some food at a place like this, but being FORCED to and having to order it immediately upon sitting down so they know you fill the minimum, is uncomfortable.
Most of the experience with the food/drink part was just a ton of petty annoyances that added up to "nope not coming back".
- The only reasonably priced items are the wine ($7-10/glass). A Bud Light is $6. My friend had Tito's & soda and it was $10.50 apiece. The kicker was the cocktails at $15 (!!) - that's why the prices aren't listed. Not even a frickin' strip club here charges that much for liquor.
- NOTHING counts towards it except individual alcohol. You cannot get one drink & food (even though that's a much larger bill - the food is equally jacked in price). You cannot order a double, it has to be two separate drinks.
- Waitress was reasonably nice in that fakey kind of way. Immediately rattled off cocktail specials and obviously wanted us to hurry up & order so she could move on. She volunteered to bring my drinks out 1 at a time, didn't happen. She checked on us so much it was to the point of annoying. Pretty obvious they want you to order more and more overpriced drinks.
- They drop bills 25 minutes before the show ends and make it obvious they want you to stop watching it & get your money out. Annoying. We were given one check (two girls together, obviously not a couple) & had to figure out the math in the pitch black. They had also circled REAL BIG the suggested tip percentages... that's tacky. Seriously.
I doubt we'll be back.
