| - We were looking for a home security system and recently received a flyer about a deal with ADT so I decided to call. I spoke with a woman who asked the standard questions and at a certain point, she asked for my SS# to run a credit check and a credit card number to have on file. I asked her why she needed a credit card if I was just setting up a consultation. She put me on hold and a few minutes later, a man gets on the phone and begins the conversation again. I asked why am I speaking with a different representative and he stated that he is better at this, he's been there for over 5 years and the other rep has only been there 3 months. This should have been a big ol' red flag but I kept going. He gave me the his glorious presentation, including how the White House is monitored by them, and they have been established for years and years and blah, blah, blah...and again he asked for the credit card info and when I challenged him on why (again), he stated other companies do the same. This was my first call to any home security system so I didn't know if this was true. Long story short, he threw in a whole bunch of free stuff, I got my husband on a 3 way call and we set up an appt and gave them a credit card WITH the understanding that the appt was a consultation ONLY with NO obligation to sign and that NO charges will be made unless we sign a contract. After 4 robocalls confirming the consultation, we decide we don't want them. My husband calls to cancel the consultation and guess what!!?? They charged the credit with the contract fee!!! This company may have a long history of service but the people working there lack integrity and honesty. I will never, ever recommend them to anybody. You guys suck and I'm reporting you to the BBB.
