| - On my way home from work yesterday, I noticed that this place was having its grand opening this weekend. We must have a reputation for very stinky dogs here in Melrose, cause this place is the third self-wash/groomer to set up shop within a mile of my house. Although I've been happy with a certain other dog-washing establishment in the area, in the interest of fairness, I thought I'd check out this one too.
I went this afternoon with my trusty (and smelly) sidekick, Roxy. First impression: clean and spacious, if a little disorganized. Actually it was a lot bigger than I expected. There is a large main room with a few meager shelves of toys, treats, and organic dog food, an indoor "play area", and a grooming/bath room. The play area didn't look too exciting, and since Roxy was the only big dog there, we decided not to go in. Instead, she sniffed around at her fellow four-legged patrons as I checked out prices. The grand opening dog-wash specials were great, and the regular prices are pretty competitive. The bath area was pretty standard with harnesses in the tubs, and those nice padded tub bottoms to keep the dogs from slipping (but allowing more traction to plot a desperate, leaping escape). They don't have as many wash options (i.e. shampoos and such) as our go-to wash spot, but this was only their first weekend, so maybe some new additions are on the horizon.
