  • So there isn't much information about this facility online, not even a official website. I know insurance determines a lot on placement, but people should be able to research their limited options a little bit. What little was about the senior home part (no good) but not much on the rehab part so I wanted to write my experiences based on visiting nearly everyday my grandma in law and what we observed. She had a seizure and wasn't doing so well after so the hospital wanted to get her into rehabilitation. She's had a terrible experience with a place in the NE area and had to fight to get her out so we were really worried on where to place her anywhere. Unfortunately we had two options only. One facility in the central area or this one on the literal farthest point away from our house in the NW. There was no room at the other and it was a blessing in disguise as we heard word of mouth awful things as well. However, people had positive things to say about this rehabilitation (though again not on the senior home portion of this place, and we walked into that building accidentally and it was kinda depressing and just had a bad energy). The facility itself, is very much like that area of town, a older building so it isn't the nicest looks wise. However it was kept clean and they did follow proper sanitary measures with touching patients and such. Grandma was pretty happy with her nurses, in particular one Filipino guy she just adored. The nurses were nice to us anytime we had questions or needed something for her. They made rounds, like the way they should. Grandma reported sometimes at night it would take a moment if she needed something and she seemed to prefer her daytime nurses generally so. They were pretty considerate about her food.... I mean it was "hospital food" style still, but it was better tasting than my high school cafeteria and they made sure not to feed her anything she didn't like (they gave a list of common ingredients and we crossed off what she doesn't like). My MIL was there more often than we were as she also came in the AM before work, then came back after work until late night when we just came after work. Since she was there at least 6 hours a day, she sees a lot and there wasn't anything that alarmed her to feel her mom was not being cared for. The most important part was the rehabilitation and from the first night she was in, they already had her doing exercises. Because of the seizure, she wasn't really speaking and if she was it was mostly in Dutch or very garbled/incomplete English. They had to be patient to get her to do things, but they also pushed her to keep on (she's very stubborn about not doing things). She was not very active before the incident so it was difficult, but they pushed her everyday to do pull bars, use a bicycle, walk, etc. By the end of her first week, she was able to talk almost like normal and was going to the bathroom mostly unassisted. She was also eating pretty well again, better than she had in a month. Week two it was like almost normal. She had moments of memory slips, but herself and she was about at her old activity level which wasn't good but at least back to able to use a walker to get places and being able to go to the bathroom. This is the purpose of being there and they were on top of it. Two weeks, she is now back home. The last two days they had my MIL attend her physical therapy to show her some tips and the last day had a final talk with her to let her know what happens next with in-home follow ups with another agency and encouraged her to contact someone to continue PT at home. No place will be perfect, but they did what they were supposed to do and we're very grateful to be able to have grandma go back to her home. If something were to happen to her again (hope not) we know to request this place specifically in the future. We will drive anywhere, if they're going to actually help her.
