| - This place serves up what may be the best Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches in the Southeast. They make their own baguettes, which are thinner, airy in the crumb and lightly crunchy on the crust. You don't have to fight your way through a huge amount of bread to get to the inside. The carrots and radishes are delicately pickled, The meat is flavorful, and the herbs are fresh. I don't know if this ends my quest for the One True Banh Mi, but it comes pretty close. I've been all over large metropolitan areas like Atlanta, and this beats anything you'd find in places there like Lee's Bakery. And yes, Le's Sandwiches has che (Vietnamese puddings)! This store is a hidden gem. You might have to brave panhandling hobos and other unsavory types, fight traffic to get in and out of there, traverse those moon crater-sized holes in the parking lot, and ignore the internal alarms going off that tell you your person and property aren't safe, but it's worth it. It may be hell in the barrio, but the food is good and it makes life worth living.
