  • Someone die? Flowers. Someone born? Flowers. Can't believe you're daughter graduated cosmetology school? Flowers. Girlfriend isn't pregnant? Flowers. Answered honestly when your wife asked if those jeans made her ass look big? Flowers. Flowerama is a national chain and they are located just about everywhere. If you've ever ordered flowers from FTD or 1-800-Flowers they've probably come from one of their locations. This particular one happens to be on the corner of Memphis and Fulton Avenues in Brooklyn right down from my place. About the size of a mini-mart, it's got coolers filled to overflowing with roses of every color, ridiculously fragrant hyacinths (be careful bringing these into your house), over-the-top bouquets and other beauties. There are shelves lined with those viney plants you see in offices everywhere and small metal dogs stuffed with succulents. During the fall they've got plenty of mums and those little wooden windmills, who doesn't want one of those? Balloons? They've got you covered there, too. There's even a metal stand with cards just in case you forgot one the last time you were at CVS. Actually, since flowers are one of those things you don't know you need until you need them, you can rest assured that the fine folks at Flowerama will be there to lend a hand. During our visit they were friendly and all smiles. Can't blame them. They do work in a flower shop. It's a bit like Mother Nature exploded in the place. Look around outside the next time you stop in. The last time I was there they had a rainbow selection of plastic lawn flamingos for adoption, a flag emblazoned with a dog drinking a margarita, and enough whirligigs to make any white trash household the envy of the neighborhood. Toilet and bathtub planters? You're on your own for those.
